Read Me (System 7.0 compatible s/w) Copyright 1991 Radius Inc. RadiusWare System Software INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS & SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION June, 1991 _________________________________________________________________ RADIUS SOFTWARE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOADING The following software files are now available for use with Radius display systems and graphic engines: Ñ RadiusWare, version 2.0, offers Tear-off Menus, Screen Saver, Screen Capture, and an Enlarged Menu Font for Radius display systems on the Macintosh SE/30 and Macintosh II family of computers. It also includes the Dynamic Desktop and Finder Cleanup features for Pivot Display Systems. System 7.0 is not yet compatible with Tear-off Menus. Tear-off menus will be inoperable under System 7.0, but fully functional under 6.0.x systems. Ñ Soft Pivot, version 1.2, enables a Pivot Display connected to a Macintosh IIci or IIsi built-in video port to operate in both portrait and landscape orientations and take advantage of RadiusWare features. Soft Pivot 1.2 now includes a control panel which may not be described in your RadiusWare manual. Please see below for more information on these changes. Ñ Radius MATH, version 1.5, substantially enhances the performance of floating point calculations if your Macintosh is equipped with a 68881 or 68882 co-processor. Additional information is available in the ╥Read Me (Radius MATH)╙ document. Ñ Radius/GX, version 1.2, enables the DirectColor/GX Interface to accelerate 32-Bit QuickDraw¬ and select either NTSC-rate or PAL-rate interlaced, RGB video output. Additional information is available in the ╥Read Me (Radius/GX)╙ file. Ñ QuickColor, version 1.7, enables the QuickColor Graphics Engine to accelerate 32-Bit QuickDraw. Version 1.7 of QuickColor is System 7.0 compatible. If this file is not present in your System Folder at startup, the QuickColor card will not be activated, although the display will still function properly. Ñ Classic/SE Display, version 3.9, offers Tear-off Menus, Screen Saver, Screen Capture, and an Enlarged Menu Font for Radius display systems for the Macintosh Classic, and Macintosh SE computers. It also enables these Macintoshes to perform two screen operations when using a Radius display system. On the Macintosh Classic, this file is required for the FPD to operate; without it the FPD will remain dark. System 7.0 is not yet compatible with Tear-off Menus. Tear-off menus will be inoperable under System 7.0, but fully functional under 6.0.x systems. SE Displays will still require a ROM upgrade to function under System 7.0. General information regarding ROM versions required for 7.0 and other important ROM upgrade information is available in a separate document titled "Common System 7.0 Upgrade Q&A" available in the Radius Customer Support folder on AppleLink. _________________________________________________________________ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS To load new Radius software, drag the file(s) to your system folder and restart. If you are running System 7.0, the system will automatically put the files into the appropriate sub-folders. Because this electronic distribution does not include an automated Installer, be sure to remove old versions of the software you are installing. _________________________________________________________________ MACINTOSH SYSTEM SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS The Radius software on this release is System 7.0 compatible. Radius recommends that you operate under System Software version 6.0.5 or greater. In addition, if you wish to operate a Radius DirectColor Series interface at more than 8-bits per pixel, you must also install Apple's 32-Bit QuickDraw version 1.2 or later, included on your Apple System disks. 32-Bit QuickDraw can be installed in your System Folder by running the Apple Installer program. Under System 7.0, 32-bit QuickDraw is a standard part of the system and is installed automatically. Radius also recommends installing 32-Bit QuickDraw if you are using a Pivot Display. If you have a Macintosh IIsi, IIci, or IIfx, 32-Bit QuickDraw is already installed in the Macintosh╒s ROM (read-only memory). _________________________________________________________________ MACINTOSH II COMPUTERS WITH REVISION A ROMS The Pivot, DirectColor, and GS/C interface cards are incompatible with early Macintosh II's that are equipped with Revision A ROMs. These ROMs are only found in Macintosh II computers manufactured before January 1988. Please contact your authorized Apple dealer for upgrade information. _________________________________________________________________ RADIUSWARE 2.0 CHANGES THAT MAY NOT BE REFLECTED IN THE RADIUSWARE MANUAL The RadiusWare control panel now has three pages. These pages are accessed by clicking the appropriate page number at the bottom of the RadiusWare control panel. Ñ Page 1: System 7.0 is not yet compatible with Tear-off Menus. Tear-off menus will be inoperable under System 7.0, but fully functional under 6.0.x systems. Ñ Page 2: The shortcuts are listed at the bottom of page 2. The shortcuts listing no longer appears on page 1 under the About button. Ñ Page 2: In addition to the shortcuts listing, page 2 contains the Dynamic Desktop and Finder Cleanup features for Radius Pivot Displays. These features are inactive in systems that do not have a Pivot Display. Ñ Page 3: The Special Settings section now allows you to disable the ╥auto-centering of dialog boxes╙ and the ╥auto-lowering of windows below the menu bar╙ BY APPLICATION. Select the application and click the appropriate button to ON or OFF. Ñ Page 3 continued: The Special Settings for Pivot Displays (Specify Dialogs and Big Boundaries) have been moved to Page 3 but function as described in the manual. These features are inactive in systems that do not have a Pivot Display. RadiusWare 2.0 also prohibits you from rotating a Pivot Display if the Monitors Control Panel is open. Close the Monitors Control Panel before changing Pivot's orientation. _________________________________________________________________ SOFT PIVOT 1.2 CHANGES THAT MAY NOT BE REFLECTED IN THE RADIUSWARE MANUAL Soft Pivot 1.2 now has a control panel with two buttons. Ñ Clicking the Landscape button to OFF limits the amount of memory used by Soft Pivot but restricts Pivot to portrait operation only. Ñ The Color button has been added for the Color Pivot Display. It should be set to OFF for monochrome Pivots. _________________________________________________________________ UPDATE TO PIVOT COMPATIBILITY GUIDE A patch is now available that fixes the incompatibility between Soft Pivot and Letraset's ImageStudio version 1.7. To obtain this patch contact Letraset technical support. The patch is also available on Letraset's direct BBS (300/1200/2400 baud) at (201) 845-5362. _________________________________________________________________ MACINTOSH CLASSIC FULL PAGE DISPLAY CAUTION: As noted in the Full Page Display Users Guide, the Macintosh Classic Full Page Display Interface cannot detect the presence or absence of the FPD connection. As a result, if you try to operate your Macintosh Classic without the FPD - the Radius software might operate as if the FPD was still connected. There are several methods to handle this situation: (1) Disable the FPD operation through the Radius Control panel prior to disconnecting the FPD, or (2) Depress the COMMAND key and MOUSE DOWN during the Macintosh boot-up process, or (3) remove Classic/SE Display from your System Folder. In addition, the Full Page Display is not compatible with the Apple CloseView INIT when running on a Macintosh Classic. If you wish to run CloseView, do one of the following to disable the Full Page Display: (1) Disable the FPD operation through the Radius Control panel prior to disconnecting the FPD, or (2) Depress the COMMAND key and MOUSE DOWN during the Macintosh boot-up process, or (3) remove Classic/SE Display from your System Folder. _________________________________________________________________ CUSTOMER SUPPORT If you have a problem you cannot resolve through your Radius Authorized Reseller, contact Radius Customer Support by phone at (408) 434-1012, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Fridays, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time, or by FAX at (408) 954-1015.
